Here is my finished block: (This is my monthly entry for
blockofthemonth. I'm posting it here because there are LOTS of pictures.)

First, I decided on a color scheme. I got my inspiration from another blog. I think that I have all of the fabrics that I need except for browns, and I might look for a fabric to connect them all.

Second, I cut the fabrics: 4- 7 inch squares of blue, 4-7 inch squares of beige, 4- 3 1/2 inch squares of orange. Then I drew diagonal lines on the back of the beige and orange squares. I put one beige square on top of one blue square, right sides together.

I sewed a 1/4 inch seam on both side of the line. Then I cut the square apart on the line, and ironed back.

My pieces were too large, so I trimmed them down. I actually prefer to do this since I can be sure that the pieces are exactly right.

I tried the square with the fabrics in both directions.

Then, I put the orange fabrics on the corner and sewed on the line.

I cut off the extra fabric leaving a 1/4 inch seam and then iron back.

And that's pretty much how I finished it. I had extra half-square triangles of the blue and beige, so I made an extra block.
